STORY OUTLINE
Stanley Arthur Ward, who had immigrated from England, enlisted at Port Douglas in January 1915, occupation farmer.
He served mainly with the 17th Australian Army Service Corps as a Driver, although he had short detachments to the 25th Battalion. He was hospitalised for a time in June 1917 but saw the war through and marched out of France on 13 February 1919.
On 13 April 1919 he embarked for Australia on the Castalia.
On return to Mossman he was welcomed home by the 'Mossman Welcome Home Club' along with six other Diggers.
However, records show that by 1936, Stanley Ward was a resident of Kansas City, USA.
