STORY OUTLINE
Charles Snowdon embarked Sydney HMAT Ayrshire A33 24/01/1917 and disembarked Devonport, UK 12/04/1917.
He joined the 52nd Battalion in France 31/8/1917, was wounded in action with service wound to left thigh 27/04/1918.
He died on the field 27/04/1918 and was buried at Crouy British Cemetery, Amiens, France.
His death was published in the Roll of Honour lists by The Brisbane Courier, Thursday 23 May 1918 showing "no relatives" but W.P. Jones of Mossman, QLD recognised the name as a man who had worked for his father, R.O. Jones, for a number of years.
Jones was also able to advise the Officer-in-Charge of Base Records in Melbourne of the early whereabouts of his sisters in a Townsville orphanage and thus his next-of-kin sister Alice was able to be traced to Brisbane where she was living, and a married woman.
