STORY OUTLINE

Private James Murphy, known as 'Spud', embarked in Brisbane on HMAT Boorara A42 on the 16-08-1916 and disembarked at Plymouth England on 13-10-1916. Whilst attached to training battalions he was in and out of hospital at Codford on Salisbury Plain west of London from November 1916 to March 1917. He was taken on strength with the 47th Battalion in Etaples France on 10-06-1917.

He continued to be hospitalised with the common trench medical problems such as dysentry and scabies in the field right through to April 1919 when he was returned to Australia and embarked on the HMAT Beltana at Devonport England on 2-06-1919 arriving 19-07-1919.
