STORY OUTLINE

Richard Joseph Kiely was born in Port Douglas.

He worked as a labourer and enlisted in Cairns. He embarked Sydney 18/05/1916 and disembarked in England 10/07/1916.

On the 26/09/1916 he proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, France 47th Battalion.

He was wounded in action on the 28/11/1916 with wounds to his thigh and left ankle.

He was admitted to the 3rd Canadian General Hospital in Boulogne France where he died on the 02/12/1916 [from Gas Gangrene].

He is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.

His brother, John James Kiely, claimed a pension of 1 pound p.f. from 08/02/1917.
