STORY OUTLINE
Joseph King was born at Nanango, worked as a labourer and enlisted at Mossman in November 1914.
He took a shrapnel wound to his right leg at Anzac Cove and was shipped to hospital in Cairo, a journey of over a week.
He often misbehaved and was punished, once or twice with "F P No.2", Field Punishment Number Two, where the prisoner was placed in fetters and handcuffs but was not attached to a fixed object and was still able to march with his unit.
This was a relatively tolerable punishment. With Field Punishment No.1, the offender, in fetters and handcuffs, was attached to an object like a fence or wheel"(Wikipedia).
He departed the Middle East for Australia in January 1919 and was discharged 25 April 1919.
