STORY OUTLINE
Michael Hugh Keleher enlisted at Townsville and embarked from Sydney for overseas per ship HMAT "Demosthenes" on the 18th May 1916 arriving at Greymouth, England two months later.
As a member of the 41st Battalion's 11th Infantry Brigade he was sent to France in February 1917 and wounded in action (gassed) in April 1918.
Wounded again in July, probably as part of General Monash's attack at Hamel in the Somme valley, he was transfered to the 1st Southern General Military Hospital at Birmingham England and discharged three months later to return to France.
When his unit was demobilised Keleher finally embarked on the SS "Port Denison" from England on the 25th March 1919 and arrived in Australia after 55 days at sea.
He was subsequently discharged in July of 1919.
