STORY OUTLINE

William Kelly was born in Port Douglas but when he enlisted at age 28 in August 1915, he was a storeman at Townsville. He was assigned to the 5th Light Horse, but saw more time in hospital than action in the field in the Middle East - mumps, malaria and other ailments. Even his journey home in July 1919 was aboard a hospital ship.
