STORY OUTLINE
Percy Jowett was born in Port Douglas but had moved to the south coast of Queensland by the start of the war, working as a clerk. He enlisted in January 1917, aged 21. Appointed to the 9th Machine Gun Company, he disembarked at Liverpool, England in September 1917. He spent some time in the 9th Training Battalion before proceeding to France in May 1918. After the war he returned to Australia and was discharged in September 1919.
