STORY OUTLINE

George Herman gave his address as the Exchange Hotel, Mossman so he was possibly a cane cutter.

Within six months of enlistment, he was a Lance Corporal and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in Sept 1916 in France.

When he was wounded with a gun shot to the left shoulder in 1917, his next of kin, his cousin Mr J S Sharp of Mossman, could not be informed as he was no longer at his address.

George was wounded again by a gunshot to his left forearm in 1918 just ten days after rejoining the 46th Battalion, but he survived to be demobilised in England in March 1919.
