STORY OUTLINE
Ivor Hewett was born in England but enlisted at Port Douglas. He served in Egypt, Gallipoli and Western Front. During four years of overseas service he was hospitalised several times. While in Egypt, he married a nursing sister Florence St George Sproule (27-03-16) from Flinders, Victoria.
Miss Florence St George Sproule was the ninth Australian army nursing sister to be married in Garrison Chapel, Abbassia, Egypt. This Garrison Chapel is part of the Australian General Hospital building.
After the marriage, Florence was required to return to Australia on the 'Runic' on nursing duties. She later returned to England as matron of the Red Cross and then returned to Australia with her husband Ivor.
They settled in Flinders, Victoria and had six children.
(The eldest son fought with the RAAF during WWII), Ivor died at age 72.
