STORY OUTLINE
Thomas Henry Gill is the most likely of all with name T Gill in the National Archives to have had some association with Douglas Shire (but highly speculative; possibly coming soon after returning to Australia with his British bride to work on the Mossman - Port Douglas railway?).
He was born in Rockhampton, became a railway storeman (his father was a loco inspector) and enlisted at Rockhampton at age 25.
Being a storeman he was assigned for the duration of the war to Base Depot duties with the 15th Battalion.
For most of the war, his base was at Etaples. While overseas he married Marjorie Mitchell from York, and returned to Australia in August 1919.
