STORY OUTLINE
Robert Charles Geeves embarked per HMAT Ascanius on 20-06-1915 for training in Egypt. After landing at Gallipoli in September he was returned to Egypt from Mudros Island on 9-01-1916 (presumably injured).
He was sent to Etaples France two months later and from early August 1916 until the end of the year he was in and out of hospital for influenza and scabies as a result of muddy trench warfare. After spending the first half of 1917 at the Corps Workshops he spent two weeks on leave in England and was back in France by September 1917 when the Battalion was moved to Belgium again, probably taking part in the battles at Menin Road and Brooseinde Ridge in September and October. Hospitalised again during most of January of 1918 he was back with his Battalion until September. In January 1919 he was sent to England, hospitalised again and finally returned to Australia per HT Mahia embarking 4-06-1919 and arriving 20-7-1919.
Private Geeves died aged 81 years and is buried in the Mossman Cemetery, QLD.
