STORY OUTLINE

At enlistment in Cairns, miner Norman Frederick Feldmann, born London, gave a Mossman address. Off to France on the Omrah in January 1917, he served with the 7th Machine Gun Company. In June 1918, he suffered a shrapnel wound to the shoulder but after hospitalisation was able to return to duty. While still on duty in February 1919 he suffered a severe bout of bronchitis and was returned to Australia on the hospital ship Wandilla, arriving May 1919.
