STORY OUTLINE

Our only connection for Walter Evans to Douglas Shire is his address, Mossman. Born in Birmingham, England and enlisted Townsville he embarked on the Star of Victoria in March 1916 and served with the 13th Field Ambulance in France and Belgium. Being a mechanic, his assignment to ambulance vehicles was appropriate and no doubt well applied. After the war he returned to Australia on the Persic in July 1919.
