STORY OUTLINE
Francis De Daunton, born in Charters Towers, was a labourer in Douglas Shire when he enlisted, March 1915 at age 22. Assigned to the 25th Battalion, he served at both Gallipoli and France. The 25th Battalion was the first of the AIF Battalions in France and engaged heavily in the battle of Pozieres, 25 July to 7 August 1916. During this conflict, De Daunton was killed, 29 July. He is buried at Villers-Bretonneux.
