STORY OUTLINE
Edward Lindsay Christie is the only E L Christie we found in war records while searching for Christie E L on the Shire Honour Board - but we struggle for a connection. For some reason, Edward Christie initially enlisted under the alias John William Parnell; this was later corrected. He sought rank, claiming previous experience in the Royal Navy and Kitchener's Scouts and was at one stage a Lieutenant but that was later revoked. Christie served in France, suffering some hospitalisation from bronchitis and trench fever and was also wounded. After returning to Australia, April 1918, he applied for further army service, claiming to have been recommended for the Victoria Cross. The army responded that he qualified for the British War Medal and the Victory Medal but had not been recommended for any Decorations. Edward Christie died in June 1956.
