STORY OUTLINE

William Bray, born in Bundaberg and enlisted Townsville is the most likely W Bray we can find in records to have a place on the Shire Honour Board in the Soldiers Who Fell section. His occupation loco driver suggests that he might have driven cane trains, hence the possibility that at the time leading up to the war he drove trains for the Mossman Mill. Enlistment through Townsville was not uncommon for Douglas district troops. Private Bray fought with the 15th Battalion on the Western Front. On 11 April 1917, he was missing and then declared killed in action in a fierce encounter with the enemy. Any information to help confirm that this is our man will be appreciated.
