STORY-OUTLINE
John Edwin Brittain's mother, his next of kin, appears to have worked at 'The Cedars' Mossman. He was a butcher before enlisting in January 1915. Private Brittain embarked from Australia 17/06/1915. In February 1916 he was hospitalised at the Australian.Gen.Hospital Ghezirch, Cairo, with illness and on the 27/09/17 he had a gunshot wound to his right thigh and spent time in the 8th Australian Hospital Dartford and Bethnal Green Military Hospital London. He married Dorothy Mary Brittain on the 25/11/1918. He embarked at Southampton on the 09/03/1919 per H.T."Kashmir" for return to Australia and disembarked 23/04/1919. He was discharged second July 1919.
