STORY OUTLINE
Born in Port Douglas, Joseph Boyle enlisted in April 1916, by then a labourer at Bundaberg. He arrived in England in December 1916 and then marched into Etaples on 17 February 1917 with the 11th Battalion. Lance Corporal Boyle was transferred to the 49th Battalion in August 1917, then wounded in action in the field in September 1917. He rejoined the unit in Belgium on 6th October 1917, only to be killed in action just a few days later on 12th October.
