STORY OUTLINE
James Blaney originally from Ireland, enlisted at Townsville in August 1915. He embarked from Brisbane on the Kyarra in January 1916 with the 25th Battalion. By August he had developed serious varicose veins and was hospitalised and then declared unfit for duty - both legs were so swollen that he was unfit to march. He embarked the Ajana on 17 October 1916 for Australia and was discharged on 13 January 1917. We have not been able to establish a link to Douglas, although the Honour Board lists a 'Blaney, J' and this is the most likely candidate.
