STORY OUTLINE

John Ball enlisted in Brisbane on 3rd January 1916, but with a Mossman address. He went with the 9th Battalion to the Western Front, entering France in December 1916. On 30 September 1917 he was wounded in action in Belgium but was able to rejoin the unit on 24 October. He returned to Australia on the Nestor in May 1919.
