STORY OUTLINE

Born at Port Douglas, Herbert Ball became a butcher before enlisting in March 1916, aged 27. He embarked for England on 7th September 1916 on the SS 'Princess Clementine'. He proceeded to France, joined the 9th Battalion, and marched into Etaples on 22 December 1916. His Front line action was brief - killed in action on 5th January 1917.
