STORY OUTLINE
Richard Henry Batten was a labourer in the Douglas district when war broke out. He enlisted at Port Douglas in February 1915. Sergeant Batten left Australia in transport A60 'Aenaes' on the 26/05/15 with the 25th Battalion. He became Lieutenant; on the 12/10/18 he transferred to 26th Battalion. Then he proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force and disembarked Marseilles 23/12/18. He returned to Australia per H.T. 'Chemnitz' and from there he disembarked in Melbourne on the 5/09/19. He was transferred to the retired list on the 1/10/1925 and retained his rank.
