STORY OUTLINE
Ronald George Tucker embarked at Brisbane aboard SS Melbourne A36 on 12-06-1915 and joined the 2nd Australian Division for training in Egypt.
He was transferred to the British Expeditionary Force and disembarked Marseilles on 28-03-1916 from Alexandria, Egypt and was transferred to the 26th Battalion in France.
In and out of hospital April 1916 he was treated by the second Australian Stationary Hospital at Abbeville in the Somme area from the effects of lewisite gas (a variant of mustard gas) on his respiratory system.
He rejoined his unit in August 1916 and returned to Australia on 25-5-1919.
According to their Service Records, both Ronald Tucker and Stanley Ward (whose service numbers were only three apart) enlisted at Port Douglas on the same day, embarked for Egypt on the same ship (Embarkation Records are different ??), were then sent to France on the same ship but were transferred to different battalions.
