STORY OUTLINE

Oliver Thompson, born in Port Douglas, was a miner at Wolfram who enlisted in Cairns on 29/4/1916 aged 37.

In France he was wounded on 21/07/1917.

In January 1918 he was gassed, and was admitted to hospital in England for this on 19/03/1918, and did not rejoin his regiment in France until 26/07/1918.

He returned to Australia on 20/07/1919, and was discharged on 28/08/1919.
