STORY OUTLINE

Joseph Pye, born in Tenterfield, was a veterinary surgeon at Port Douglas when he enlisted in February 1915.

Unfortunately he failed the medical examination on arrival at Enoggera, was discharged 30 April, and returned to Port Douglas. There was probably some embarrassment attached to this, as the township had given him a hearty send-off not long before.
