STORY OUTLINE

Richard Prendergast was an immigrant from Ireland working as labourer in the Douglas district when war broke out.

He enlisted at Port Douglas in February 1915. Assigned to the 25th Battalion, he joined the fighting at Gallipoli 4 September 1915. Surviving through the rest of that conflict, he was then thrust into the war in France, disembarking Marseilles on 19 March 1916.

He lasted just four months, killed in what may have been the 25th first serious encounter with the enemy 29-07-16.
