STORY OUTLINE

Charles Mestrez was born in Port Douglas but enlisted at Charters Towers in March 1916, aged 38. He was assigned as a sapper in the 1st Tunnelling Company operating in France and Belgium, and later appointed Corporal.

He was killed in action on 25 September 1917.

His effects were returned to his mother, Lucie Mestrez.
