STORY OUTLINE
John Malden's family were well-known in Port Douglas, but John lived in Townsville. His father passed away in Sept. 1914, aged 79 years., leaving his mother in Port Douglas.
John was wounded in action in France on 23 July 1916 and died two days later. His mother Anne Malden signed for package 1917 and his Victory Medal 1923.
In 1929 he was exhumed from Pozieres and reburied at Serre Rd Cemetery No.2 near Beaumont Hamel, France.
His mother was sent his wrist watch and a threepenny coin which were found with his body but she had passed away a year before.
