STORY OUTLINE
Richard Inglis was born in Glasgow, Scotland but at the time of enlistment in January 1915, he was a fitter in Douglas Shire, aged 25.
He departed for overseas service in June 1915, and was assigned to 24th, 25th and then 26th Battalions.
During service in France in July 1917 he was wounded with injuries to the scalp, foot, back and arm.
After hospitalisation in England, he returned to France in October 1917, with the 26th Battalion. He married Hilda Mary Goodenough at Buckingham Gate, England on 18 January 1918 and returned to Australia in July 1919. He was discharged in October 1919.
