STORY OUTLINE

William 'Bill' Fielding was a highly decorated soldier who spent much time hospitalised due to gun shot wounds in both thigh in 1915 and neck in 1916, and later falling ill. He returned to Australia on the SS Miltiades , arriving Brisbane in August 1919. The young sugar chemist was believed to be working at the Mossman Sugar Mill prior to enlisting at Port Douglas.
