George Collins was born at Cooktown of a Bloomfield River based father and enlisted at Port Douglas in January 1915. He was passed medically fit in the north but in February 1915 a Medical Board at Enoggera found him unfit for service due to defective teeth and chronic cough. He was discharged 4 March 1915, just two months after joining.
