STORY OUTLINE
Private Allan Henry Taylor was a very unlucky young man. His father was dead, his mother remarried and he had step siblings. His mother was Mrs Ada Elizabeth Young, Saltwater via Mossman. He enlisted in Cairns at the age of 18 on 4 November 1916.
He asked for ten days leave to fix up land with the Mill and visit his parents; leave was granted for 29 December until 8 January 1917. His unit embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A33 Ayrshire on 24 January 1917.
He was admitted to the ship’s hospital on 5/02/17 and died of spinal meningitis 15/02/17.
He was Buried at Sea as there was fear of infection.
