STORY OUTLINE

Thomas John O'Connor, a labourer with contact address Mossman, enlisted January 1915 at Brisbane.

Fighting with the 9th Battalion in France he was hospitalised for some time from October 1916 with a severely ulcerated leg and was shipped back to Australia in February 1917.

In later years his daughter requested custody of the medals for keeping in the family line rather than her mother Lilian who had remarried.

The Defence Force acceded to this request.
