STORY OUTLINE
Roy Albert Miller embarked 25/06/1915 at Melbourne on HMAT "Ceramic". He was at Anzac within three weeks of arriving at Egypt on 12/08/1915 and a month later was admitted to hospital suffering from typhoid fever being transferred to hospitals in Malta and England.
With his final return to health he was sent to Etaples, France in October 1916 and after nearly a year of being in the field he was hospitalised once more for a period of four months before rejoining his unit the 4th Field Company Engineers in March 1918. Sapper Miller was wounded in action on 4/07/1918 but remained on duty and was later awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry and devotion to duty.
He marched out of France with his unit January 1919 and was returned to Australia on HT "Cluny Castle" from Devonport England on 23/03/1919 arriving Australia 23/05/1919.
