STORY OUTLINE

John Thomas Hardwick, one of three Hardwick brothers to serve in World War I, enlisted in Brisbane in April 1916, aged 21. Assigned to the 2nd Light Horse, he landed in Suez and fought in the Middle East through the rest of the war, apart from some periods of hospitalisation due to illness. He returned to Australia in March 1919 and was discharged in June.

He married Evelana Jane Robbins in Mowbray, December 1921.
